QV? Quby? 큐브이? キュビ? Cutie? Ummm... slight Engrish aside, it's an inventive, fun and relaxing puzzle game with dozens of scenarios (actually over 150 puzzle variations) and involves cute characters doing (mostly) cute things. Developed by the Korean gaming outlet, IZZLE (a compound word comprised of "ideas" and "puzzles") and released in 2020, most of their works were released for mobile platforms (specifically, Android / iOS) and QV is currently their most ambitious title, being released for mobile as well as for PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch. What many people don't know (as the title is typically shortened to "QV") is that this game is actually a reworked version of their original "Dimension Painter" released back in 2017 with better aesthetics and more QoL features. Being published by CFK, I was initially quite skeptical... they don't exactly have a great track record, but I was pleasantly surprised with this one.

In the game, the semi-titular Quby is the last heir to a tribe of "Dimension Guardians" who must protect the "Gate" from breaking down, or else all dimensions will be in peril. The Gate is what connects all other dimensions together and is the only passage to the "Dimensional Core" which stabilizes the dimensions. The "Dimension Crystal" begins to glow one fateful day, signifying that the Gate is in danger, and now young Quby must rush through her homeland to access the gate and solve the mysteries of the various ruins that each dimension is connected to so she can stabilize the core housed on the "Floating Island". The game has little slithers of plot as you advance through the game, but nothing exceptional.

The game consists of six primary lands that build off of Quby's initial abilities: the ability to run, jump, painting / erasing portals, doors, and other things. As expected, things start off relatively simple, but later levels introduce new gimmicks, new playable characters, and new themes. The game has a large number of achievements to complete and you can also gain new cosmetics by clearing certain milestones and finding fairies. The game also has four difficulty settings: Easy, Normal, Hard, and the unlockable "QV", with the first three changing up the level designs and puzzles to varying extents. QV levels are the hardest for the most seasoned puzzle experts and typically have very specific solutions, so the game offers a surprising amount of content when all is said and done.

While the controls and collision detection system have slight inconsistencies, it doesn't detract much from the overall experience and QV is one of the better puzzle offerings on Steam and a great puzzle game overall for brain-teasing enthusiasts. This is a video showing the game in action. You can get the game at:

Enjoy.
